Pop Quiz – What’s the Difference between POP and IMAP?

Darci LaRocque of Swirl Solutions recently addressed an interesting topic in one of her recent newsletters that I’d thought would make a fun pop quiz.

POP QUIZ Question : What is the difference between POP and IMAP?

Answer:

POP (or Post Office Protocol) downloads emails from the server for permanent local storage.

IMAP (or Internet Message Access Protocol) leaves emails on the server and caches emails locally. (Think Cloud storage.)
